Sadie took a bad fall roller skating at a birthday party on Friday night. I had a hesitation about letting her even go, but I sometimes question myself as being to over protective. Sure wish that crystal ball worked sometimes.
Friday night when we brought her home she could not put any pressure on her left leg at all – the pain was from her knee to the bottom of her foot and it was very hard to determine where the pain was located. She was obviously in a lot of pain and luckily we had pain medication that the doctor had given us in case of times like these. So, we gave her this and decided to let her sleep and see how she was in the morning.
In the morning the pain was no better, even seemed a bit worse and she still could not put any pressure on her leg at all. Still I could not tell where this pain was coming from – knee, ankle, in between. There was still no swelling and no bruising. I took her to the Emergency walk in clinic where we waited forever (as you do in any “emergency”). Once seen by the doctor (same doctor who saw Syrah with her broken collar bone); we did x-rays. The determination: Sadie has a spiral fracture of her Tibia; this means the break starts at the bottom and spirals around her leg to end at the top. She is in a temporary non-walking cast and needs to been seen by an orthopedic doctor on Monday. She can not put any weight on this foot as if she does it could break her leg in two places. This break has nothing to do with her JRA, but will affect her JRA very much.
Yesterday (Saturday) was horrible, the problem here is that it is her left leg; her left hip is in active flare and is killing her from supporting the weight of the cast and her right ankle is doing all the weight baring right now and is just not strong enough to handle it. I am praying that they will give us a wheel chair tomorrow because she can hardly walk with these crutches and is just in WAY to much pain. She has been taking pain medication every four hours and it does give her some relief, but she is still in a lot of pain.
I will update as soon as we can from the orthopedic doctor, but please pray for MERCY for Sadie. She has just been through so much and this one is the emotional killer. She is having a hard time sleeping and just getting to the bathroom is a large job. She is very burnt out!
