I wanted to update how the first week of three injections went. Tuesday was the day she had two injections and the first was Enbrel. This is the one she was getting use to, so really wasn't much of an issue. The second injection was Methotrexate which she has been taking orally. She use to take this medication by injection, but it has been at least a year since she has done that. I had forgotten (probably selectively) that she hated these injections not because the shot hurt, but because the medication burns. That said... at least I remembered this prior to giving her this injection and I wasn't totally shocked at her reaction.
The injection itself went pretty well, the needle is much smaller both in length and width compared to the Enbrel (much like the needles used for insulin), but about 10-15 seconds after her injection she rolled into a ball and just sobbed in pain. It BURNS, it HURTS she says. This went on for about 10 minutes and both Bill and I were just hurting so much for her. This by far was one of the most heartbreaking times... the times it is just too much for her. She looked up at me, noticed that I had tears in my eyes and that helped her feel a little better. Maybe it was that she felt she wasn't completely alone in her pain.
Friday, the second Enbrel injection wasn't bad, compared to the other injection I am not sure that she will ever again feel like the Enbrel is a big deal.
Sadie has physical therapy on Thursday where it will be decided how often she will be seen by a therapist in the pool and what type of brace if at all they will request she wear on her ankle. In the mean time Bill and I are looking into some options to find a way for us to take her to a pool on a more consistent basis in order to do more exercises with her. In the direction of prayer, just pray we find something that is both going to work for all of us in regards to time and finances.
Thank you to everyone who has posted their well wishes to Sadie on this site and who have emailed to do the same. We are so lucky to have so many of you praying for her... please keep it up, He is listening and I know has a plan.
