Surgery it is.

So, last week we meet with Dr. M the surgeon who did Sadie’s last synovectomy and after reviewing both her CT scan and MRI confirmed there are issues that need to be addressed surgerically. Realistically, I knew that. Dr. M said “I wouldn’t consider it an emergency, but I think we should schedule this for the next 2-3 weeks”. Honestly, that did surprise me. It surprised me enough to tell him I need to take that information home rather than scheduling anything that day. I had hoped to hear we had 4 months and then we could schedule it over the winter break, but as we have been home, talking, praying and Sadie has been keeping a journal of her pain, it is obvious we need to move forward.

As far as the surgery, not only is there active synovitus, but also there are two other issues. One, they can see small loose pieces of what appear to be cartilage build up that is literally floating in one area of her joint. This is similar to the last time she had surgery, but last time no MRI, no CT scan showed those. So, it is quite apparent that whatever these are, they are different from the last time. However, they are located in the same place and it does appear there are a few of them. Another issue is that Sadie has been having some pain on the top of her foot, this is new. When Dr. M examined this he feels she might have an impingement that is causing this pain and part of the reason for this impingement is due to something called pannus. In the MRI report there was notes to the fact that there was some new pannus formation in her joint and Dr. M confirmed this. There is a ton of information on what pannus formation means, why it is there and what will happen if it remains… all of this information is a bit more than I want to go into for the time being.

I will update more when we know when the surgery will be; recover should be about the same as the surgery in 2007 which was predicted to be up to 12 weeks, but she was walking and feeling no pain by week 5!

Please keep Sadie in your prayers; her pain level, the emotions that goes along with surgery and the fact this is something she deals with more than she cares too, her school work, her heart! Also, please keep our family in your prayers. God is good, He is faithful, we know this, but many obstacles are in our way at the moment and we need continued prayers for strength and guidance. Thank you and God Bless
